Hiring the wrong contractor — one who's unlicensed, uninsured, or improperly bonded — can leave you personally responsible for accidents, property damage, or incomplete work on your own property.
Anyone can print an impressive-looking license number on a business card or truck. Before you hire any tree service, take two minutes to verify their credentials through official state sources.
At JC Tree Experts, we are fully transparent about our credentials and encourage every customer to verify them independently.

Step One
In California, all tree service contractors performing work over $500 must hold a valid CSLB (Contractors State License Board) license. A license number alone means nothing — it must be current, in good standing, and match the company's legal name.
Before hiring any contractor, verify their license at the California CSLB website. It only takes 30 seconds and can save you significant headaches.
Unlicensed workers often cut corners on safety, carry no insurance, and may disappear after collecting a deposit.

Step Two
When you hire a contractor, you need three things: a valid license, a bond, and insurance. Here's what each one protects you from — and what happens when a contractor is missing any of them.
A license means the contractor has passed state-required testing, demonstrated knowledge of safe practices, and is legally authorized to perform tree work. Unlicensed workers often lack the training to identify hazards or perform proper cuts.
A contractor's bond protects you if the contractor fails to complete the work or defrauds you. We rarely require advance deposits — we prefer payment after you've verified the work is done to your satisfaction.
This is the most critical. If an uninsured worker is injured on your property, you may be held liable. We carry both property damage insurance and workers' compensation — protecting you completely.
The bottom line: If a contractor is injured on your property and they're uninsured, your homeowner's policy may be responsible. Don't take that risk. Always verify before signing anything.
JC Tree Experts is fully licensed, bonded, and insured. We welcome you to verify our credentials before you call — and we'll never pressure you into unnecessary work.
